Morris Manning & Martin Considers Merger After Mass Attorney Exodus

In a dramatic response to the loss of nearly 60 lawyers this year, Morris Manning & Martin, an established Am Law 200 firm, has entered into serious merger discussions with a prominent Am Law 100 firm. The Atlanta-based firm, known for its strong presence in the Southeast, reported a gross revenue of over $157 million last year but has faced significant challenges recently due to aggressive recruitment by larger competitors.

The firm's substantial loss included a group of 22 lawyers specializing in corporate and real estate law, who moved to Seyfarth Shaw, triggering Morris Manning to explore strategic alternatives to stabilize and expand its operations. The potential merger, according to managing partner Simon Malko, promises growth and opportunities that align well with the firm's long-standing reputation and client base.

"We are in advanced discussions with a national Am Law 100 firm that not only brings excellent legal prowess but also shares our values and vision for the future," Malko stated. He also expressed a mix of regret and optimism over the recent departures, emphasizing the firm's commitment to its clients and strategic growth despite these setbacks.

However, not everyone is convinced that the merger will be a panacea. An industry insider expressed skepticism, suggesting that the merger might not prevent further attrition and could potentially lead to other firms poaching more attorneys from Morris Manning.

As Morris Manning stands at this critical crossroads, the legal community watches closely. The firm's next moves could very well determine its trajectory for years to come, making this a defining moment for one of Atlanta's most storied legal institutions.
