Biglaw Merges: Frost Brown Todd and Gibbons Unite to Form FBT Gibbons in National Expansion

Another week, another monumental shift in the legal landscape as Frost Brown Todd and Gibbons announce a merger, creating a new powerhouse firm named FBT Gibbons. Scheduled to launch on January 1, 2026, this union is set to consolidate approximately 800 attorneys across 25 offices nationwide, expanding from New York to California.

Originating from Cincinnati, Frost Brown Todd is celebrated for its adept handling of corporate and transactional matters. On the other side, Newark's Gibbons, which has nearly a century of history, is recognized for its robust litigation services in the Northeast. This strategic merger aims to fortify their stance in the middle-market sector, bridging the gap between the colossal global firms and the nimble boutique practices.

The financial outlook for FBT Gibbons looks promising, with a combined revenue exceeding $450 million. This formidable figure is expected to position the newly formed entity comfortably within the prestigious Am Law 100 rankings. Leadership roles have been clearly outlined, with FBT chairman Robert Sartin taking the helm as the chair of FBT Gibbons. He will be supported by co-managing partners, Peter Torcicollo from Gibbons and Adam Hall from FBT. In a recent reveal, more than 90% of FBT's partners approved the merger, with Gibbons’ partners giving a unanimous nod.

As FBT Gibbons prepares to navigate the complexities of national and international legal matters, it pledges to maintain the 'client-first' approach—a foundational ethos for both legacy firms. The integration of these two giants under the FBT Gibbons banner is poised to create a formidable presence in the mid-market legal arena, capable of handling a diverse range of client needs with enhanced resources and a wider geographical reach.

As the legal world watches, the success of this merger will hinge on the firm's ability to balance expansive capabilities with the personalized service that has been the hallmark of both Frost Brown Todd and Gibbons. With all eyes on January 2026, the legal community anticipates this merger to set a precedent in how law firms adapt and thrive in the ever-evolving global market.
