Halloween presents a unique opportunity for the legal community, especially law students, to step away from their casebooks and dive into a world of imaginative and legally inspired costumes. Above the Law (ATL) is rolling out the black-and-orange carpet for its 16th annual Legally Themed Halloween Costume Contest, celebrating the creativity that blossoms when legal minds engage in festive play.
Over the years, participants have set high standards with their innovative and pun-filled costumes. Past winners include the Donald J. Trump College of Law (2016), a humorous take on Brett Kavanaugh’s calendar and his beer (2018), the adorable Ruth Baby Ginsburg (2020), and the artistic Warhol’s Soup Law (2023). Each costume not only reflects a keen sense of humor but also a deep engagement with current and past legal landscapes.
This year, ATL invites more legal eagles to participate by submitting their Halloween looks. Whether you’re a law student who crafts a witty spin on a landmark case, or a practicing attorney embodying a tongue-in-cheek interpretation of legal jargon, your entries are eagerly awaited. Participants can send their costume photos via email or text as detailed on ATL’s submission page.
The excitement around this contest not only lies in the competition itself but also in the community and camaraderie it builds within the legal field. It's a reminder that behind the serious exterior often associated with law professionals, there's a spirited sense of humor and creativity waiting to be unleashed.
As submissions roll in, the anticipation builds. Which iconic legal figure or humorous legal pun will make an appearance this year? Stay tuned as ATL prepares to showcase this year’s array of clever costumes. The legal community is all set to judge—and be judged—on creativity, wit, and legal flair. Remember, it's all in good fun, and the gavel is in your court to impress!
