Former London Managing Partner Under Scrutiny for Alleged Sexual Harassment

The former managing partner of Cohen & Gresser's London office, Jeffrey Bronheim, is currently under investigation by the U.K.’s Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) for allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct. This probe into Bronheim's behavior highlights serious concerns about workplace culture and the treatment of women at the firm.

According to reports from Law.com, Bronheim is accused of engaging in repeated sexual harassment of a staff member between 2022 and 2023. The allegations include both verbal and physical inappropriate conduct, ranging from unwelcome comments to unwanted physical contact. Furthermore, Bronheim is said to have made several female employees uncomfortable by purchasing or discussing personal items and excluding them from work-related social events.

Upon learning of these allegations, Cohen & Gresser initiated a comprehensive, independent investigation. The firm interviewed every current employee and partner who might have relevant information. As a result of the initial findings, Bronheim was immediately removed from his position as managing partner. He was instructed to work remotely and was barred from attending in-person firm events while the investigation continued. Additionally, Bronheim underwent one-on-one sensitivity coaching.

Bronheim later opted to step down from his role at the London office and requested to transition into an external part-time consulting position, which the firm approved. He insists that this change was a personal career decision and not a demotion. He stated that the internal investigation had concluded and he was set to return to the office before he chose to resign from his partnership position.

Despite Bronheim's resignation, the matter is far from concluded. Cohen & Gresser self-reported the situation to the SRA and submitted a 250-page report detailing their findings. An SRA spokesperson confirmed that they are currently reviewing the report to determine the necessary next steps in the investigation.

This case sheds light on the ongoing challenges within workplace environments regarding harassment and the exclusion of women from professional opportunities. It also underscores the importance of thorough investigations and accountability in maintaining ethical workplace standards. The legal community and the public will be closely watching as the SRA moves forward with its investigation.
