U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro Faces Fierce Criticism from Conservative Circles

Jeanine Pirro, a former television personality turned U.S. Attorney, recently sparked a firestorm of controversy with her comments on gun control during a Fox News segment with Martha MacCallum. Pirro, known for her typically conservative stance, surprised many when she asserted, “I don’t care if you have a license in another district... You bring a gun into this district, count on going to jail.”

These remarks, particularly stringent for someone heralded by the right, quickly drew backlash from prominent conservative figures and Second Amendment advocates. Representative Greg Steube from Florida, an outspoken pro-gun lawmaker, responded vehemently on social media platform X, stating, "I bring a gun into the district every week... And I will continue to carry to protect myself and others. Come and Take it!"

The backlash didn’t stop there. Rep. Thomas Massie questioned Pirro's conservative credentials, querying why a conservative judge would threaten to arrest law-abiding gun owners. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also chimed in, defending the Second Amendment rights of Americans visiting D.C., and Stephen Gutowski from The Reload criticized Pirro and MacCallum for what he described as cheering on an attack against gun rights.

Caught in the crossfire of her remarks, Pirro was compelled to clarify her position, explaining her focus was on “illegal guns in the hands of criminals,” attempting to distinguish between law-abiding citizens and criminals. However, this clarification did little to quell the storm, with Kostas Moros of the Second Amendment Foundation labeling her statement as “moronic.”

The episode has left many questioning Pirro's judgment and her alignment with conservative values, traditionally protective of Second Amendment rights. This incident underscores the complex and often contentious debate surrounding gun control in America, highlighting the challenges faced by public figures navigating the polarized political landscape. As the dust settles, it remains to be seen how Pirro will mend fences with the conservative base that once lauded her appointment.
