Relativity Unveils 2026 AI Visionaries at Legalweek, Shifting Focus to Practical AI Integration in Law

As New York prepares for the highly anticipated Legalweek, Relativity has made headlines with its fifth annual AI Visionaries announcement, recognizing 20 trailblazers who are redefining the integration of artificial intelligence in the legal sector.

This year’s honorees represent a diverse group from global law firms, Fortune 500 companies, academia, and the public sector, including professionals from prestigious entities such as Quinn Emanuel, Cleary Gottlieb, and Clifford Chance, as well as major corporations like Google, Walmart, and GE Vernova. The list also includes Richard Tromans from Artificial Lawyer, highlighting his contributions from the legal media perspective.

A notable shift can be observed in the discourse surrounding AI, moving away from the hyperbolic narratives of past years to a more grounded recognition of AI’s role in the legal field. The current conversation focuses on the practical and reliable application of AI technologies, emphasizing the need for cautious and responsible integration.

Adrian Agius of Gilbert + Tobin commented on the critical approach to AI in law, noting the dangers of misplacing trust in fluency without scrutiny. Dave Fronapfel, a public sector worker, argued against change without purpose, especially in institutions dependent on public trust. Meanwhile, Ankur Malik from Clifford Chance stressed the importance of human oversight and accountability in AI implementations.

These insights reflect a broader, more pragmatic approach championed by Relativity, which advocates for AI as a tool to enhance, rather than replace, legal professionals. This philosophy resonates with the day-to-day experiences and challenges faced by this year’s AI Visionaries, as expressed by Deric Yoakley of Walmart, who sees AI as a "great equalizer" in the industry.

The AI Visionaries will be celebrated at a special dinner on March 9, featuring Chris Wiggins, a Columbia professor and Chief Data Scientist at the New York Times. Attendees of Legalweek can engage further with these themes at Relativity’s booth at the North Javits Center and at RelHQ at Convene 30 Hudson Yards.

This year’s AI Visionaries are not only advancing how AI is understood and utilized in law but are also setting the stage for future innovations where technology and human expertise align to foster justice and efficiency in legal processes.
