Weil Gotshal & Manges Appoints First Female Executive Partner in Firm’s History

Women continue to break glass ceilings in the legal industry, and the latest milestone comes from Weil Gotshal & Manges, one of the nation's premier law firms. The firm has announced that Ramona Nee, currently serving as co-managing partner, will step up as the next executive partner. This appointment marks a historic moment as Nee will be the first woman to hold this top position at Weil.

Nee, a Boston University School of Law alumna, joined Weil in 2002 from the Boston firm Hutchins Wheeler & Dittmar. She has since risen through the ranks, currently co-chairing the firm’s U.S. private equity practice and managing its Boston office alongside her role as co-managing partner.

Barry Wolf, the outgoing executive partner who will continue in his role until the beginning of 2027, spoke highly of Nee’s qualifications and character. "The management committee fully endorsed the decision," Wolf stated. He emphasized the firm’s cohesive approach to leadership transitions: “We did it the Weil way: no election, no pitting people against each other, and always thinking about the firm first.”

Nee’s promotion is significant not only for its historic nature but also for what it signifies about the evolving role of women in law firm leadership. Her ascent to the executive partnership underscores a growing trend in the legal sector where more women are taking on senior leadership roles.

Expressing her enthusiasm about her new role, Nee said, “I look forward to working with Barry, the Management Committee, and all of my fellow partners during the transition period as we continue to serve our clients, support our people and continue attracting the best talent in the legal profession.”

Congratulations to Ramona Nee on her historic ascent to the top as Weil Gotshal’s executive partner! This landmark appointment not only celebrates her individual achievements and leadership capabilities but also marks a significant step forward in promoting gender diversity at the highest levels of the legal profession.
