Former White House Counsel Ty Cobb Blasts Trump's Crypto Ventures as Historic Corruption

Former Hogan Lovells partner and White House special counsel during the Trump administration, Ty Cobb, has made striking allegations against his former boss, Donald Trump. In a recent appearance on CNN's *OutFront* with Erin Burnett, Cobb discussed the contents of Trump’s latest financial disclosure, revealing over $1 billion in earnings from cryptocurrency ventures in 2025 alone. These ventures include World Liberty Financial and CIC Digital LLC, which are linked to Trump and his sons, Donald Jr. and Eric.

The financial disclosure, a hefty 927-page document filed with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, detailed that Trump earned more than $500 million from governance tokens and a USD1 stablecoin, and over $635 million in royalties from a $TRUMP meme coin launched just days before his second inauguration. Cobb highlighted the significant drop in value of these coins, which he argued left investors in loss while Trump profited immensely.

In the interview, Cobb questioned the legality of Trump's actions, suggesting they might breach the emoluments clause of the U.S. Constitution. This clause is intended to prevent federal officials from being influenced or enriched by external entities. "How can that be anything other than trading on his image and likeness?" Cobb asked, criticizing Trump's exploitation of his presidential image to enrich himself and his family through what Cobb described as a "slimy industry."

Cobb did not mince words, describing the scale of corruption associated with Trump's dealings as unprecedented. "We are seeing the greatest onslaught of corruption in the history of mankind in the last 18 months," he stated, pointing to the $1.8 billion "Anti-Weaponization Fund" that Trump attempted to extract from the Treasury as a primary example. He contrasted Trump’s billions with the millions that Republicans accused Hunter Biden of mishandling, underscoring the disparity in scale.

Concluding his fiery critique, Cobb expressed dismay at the ongoing situation, highlighting the inaction of those in power. "The grift is on. It's stunning," he declared, signaling a deep concern over the normalization of such high-level corruption under Trump's influence. As these revelations unfold, Cobb continues to use his platform to call out what he sees as egregious abuses of power, hoping to ignite a response from both the public and legislative bodies.
